Our Monitoring visit today was to the Ikonge Primary School.  This is the school that is being built by Westwood High School of Fort McMurray and Paul Kane School of St. Albert.  The construction is well under way and well ahead of schedule and within budget.

This morning we went to St. Ann’s Baby Home to pick up Alyssa Gouchie who has been volunteering here for a few weeks. Our destination was church at EAMO. We had many gifts for the children from their sponsored families back in Canada.  We distributed them and  stayed  for church. The singing from the children is always wonderful.

Helping Each Other

Today we left for Ndanai knowing we would need to spend the whole day there. Many projects are under way. Two  major construction projects need our attention.  We plan to begin construction on a new dormitory for 70 disabled children and  three more classrooms.  We have encountered some challenges with the  contractors so the buildings have not been started. We were pleased with the results of our meeting and the community spirit. We are still a month away from making a final decision and the selection of a builder.

The community has started one classroom next to the three funded by Dale Russell of Re/Max.  This was very encouraging.

I arrived in Kenya yesterday to plan for the arrival of 28 students and teachers from Alberta. They will be here next week and you can read who is all here and what they are doing  later in the week.  I also came early to monitor and evaluate the projects that have started for 2009.

On Arrival we planned a few logistical matters for the group that is coming then Benson and I drove to Noromoru to Charle’s village.   Last year Notre Dame High School of Red Deer and Group2 Architecture and engineering Ltd. Funded three classrooms for the Male Primary School. This year they are building three more classrooms.

I am now at the Calgary Airport ready to board the plane to London and then on to Nairobi.
I will arrive 24 hours later in Nairobi.
 
Next week Brent Galloway will arrive with nine students from Red Deer College (RDC) and the following week another 20 will arrive representing HJ Cody School of Sylvan Lake, Paul Kane School of St. Albert, and WestWood High School of Fort McMurray.  22 High Schiil students and 7 adults.
